Seller: clindbergh (6,738) 100% , Location: Bath, Pennsylvania, Ships to: US & many other countries, Item: 381870316795 NO RESERVE --- LOW SHIPPING --- EXCELLENT FEEDBACK MY EBAY STORE RARE, VINTAGE, & DETAILED EARLY 1900s CAST FIGURAL HEAD FACE UNKNOWN HISTORY / CULTURE ROMAN BUST OR GREEK GOD/GODDESS APOLLO NY MUSEUM OR NATURAL HISTORY Up for auction with a Buy it Now price offered is RARE, VINTAGE, & DETAILED EARLY 1900s FIGURAL FACE CAST PIECE. THIS IS A WONDERFUL OLD PIECE. I DO NOT KNOW FROM WHAT CULTURE THIS IS FROM SO YOU MAY KNOW, BUT IT IS AN UNUSUAL LOOK. MY GUESS IS A ROMAN BUST OR GREEK GODDESS BUT I DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE. IF I WERE TO GUESS IT WOULD BE APOLLO. IT HAS WONDERFUL DETAIL IN THE FACE. IT IS A HUGE AND HEAVY PIECE. IT IS ABOUT 17" TALL AND ABOUT 10" WIDE AND ABOUT 8" THICK. IT HAS THE ORIGINAL REPRODUCTION STAMP ON THE BOTTOM OF THE PIECE. I BELIEVE IT SAYS "REP TUNISIA" BUT I AM UNABLE TO MAKE OUT THE WORD ON THE TOP OF THE STAMP. THERE IS ALSO A WIRE BUILT INTO THE PIECE IN ORDER TO HANG IT ON THE WALL. IT IS A CAST PIECE MADE OF PLASTER. IT WAS MADE SPECIFICALLY FOR SALE IN THE NEW YORK MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY. IT WAS MADE TO LOOK EXACTLY LIKE THE ORIGINAL PIECE IN THE MUSEUM HOWEVER I WAS NOT ABLE TO FIND IT. THE BACK INSIDE IS FILLED WITH PLASTER AS SHOWN IN THE PHOTOS. THIS WAS OWNED BY A LONG TIME EMPLOYEE OF THE NEW YORK MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY. OFTEN THEY WOULD HAVE SALES FOR EMPLOYEES ONLY OF ITEMS BEING DISCONTINUED FROM THE GIFT SHOP OR JUST OVERSTOCK OF MUSEUM PIECES. THIS IS ONE FROM THE GIFT SHOP FROM ABOUT THE 1970's. HE WAS THE ONLY OWNER OF THIS ITEM. MANY YEARS AGO THEY SOLD ALL KINDS OF INTERESTING PIECES (I HAVE OTHERS LISTED AS WELL). THIS IS ONE OF THOSE PIECES. IT IS AT LEAST 40 YEARS OLD BUT PROBABLY MORE THAN THAT. EVEN THEN, BECAUSE OF THE DETAIL, THESE ITEMS OFTEN SOLD FOR OVER $100. OFTEN THE MUSEUM WOULD HAVE SALES FOR THE EMPLOYEES TO SELL OFF EXCESS INVENTORY OF MUSEUM GIFT SHOP ITEMS. THERE WERE SOME REALLY GREAT AND DETAILED ITEMS THAT ARE HIGHLY COLLECTABLE TODAY. I'VE NEVER SEEN ONE OF THESE SO GRAB IT TODAY BEFORE ITS GONE. IT IS A GREAT ITEM FOR YOUR COLLECTION OF VINTAGE FACE MASK ITEMS! This is in excellent condition with minor wear from age and use. This is a very old item from the museum. There is minor damage from years of display. There are a number of little knicks in the paint on the front, so they show white, or they could actually just be "missed" spots when it was painted as a few are down in the pits in the design. It also has a great patina from years of display. Its been displayed so long there is lots of dust in the cracks long the piece. I will let the buyer clean if they so choose. Overall this is a great old piece for your collection. They are being sold AS-IS, so if you want specific details, please ask BEFORE bidding. If items do not sell I will either relist them or put them in MY EBAY STOREat a HIGHER starting price than the auction. Refunds are very, very rare with me & issued ONLY when the item does not match up with my many pictures, very detailed description or in case of computer/listing error. Please shop with confidence & trust! Any questions please ask before bidding. These items are being sold as they are, a final sale. NEVER any extra package or handling charges in my auctions! As you can see from my feedback, I do pack my items well. Email with questions. If there is a problem with your item, let me know before leaving negative or neutral feedback. I will work out the issue with you. I try to make all transactions flawless but mistakes on both sides sometimes happen. If a mistake is made, I will do all I can to fix the situation. My goal is to have a satsified customer with every transaction. PHOTOGRAPHS All photos are taken with a New Olympus E-PL7 Digital Camera. Take a look at all the great Olympus cameras HERE.
