Seller: outg_44 (371) 99.4%, Location: North Brunswick, New Jersey, Ships to: US, Item: 352558011854 Up for sale is a Greek white ground terracotta Lekythos ewer or pitcher. The original, dating to ca 440-430BC, and attributed to the Phiale Painter, is now in the Staatliche Antikensammlungen museum in Munich. The seated god Hermes, god of transitions, is shown here in his capacity as 'Psychopompos', or Escorter of Souls from life to death. He holds his wand, the kerykeion. The deceased female stands in front of a grave stele decorated with 'taenia' or ribbons. This lekythos has been painted by hand in Greece. The muted colours are consistent with the original vase in its current state. In good solid condition with no chips or cracks, there is loss of paint in areas of which may be done when made..not sure as it is supposed to look ancient. Height is 12 1/2 inches and 4 1/4 inches diameter. Notation on bottom: Lekythos circa 440 b.c. exact copy AMAZING MANTLE PIECE** I pack your item well and ship fast - thanks for viewing. Condition: Looks like it is really from Circa 440 BC
