Complete vintage (or antique) Buddhist sutra from Burma . This is, I believe, a complete sutra consisting of 16 leaves inscribed on both sides with front and back wooden covers. Each page contains red and gold decorations with heavy black writing. The pages are very thin and flexible. The painting appears to be lacquer. The wooden covers are also covered with red and gold abstract designs. The back of each cover is painted red. (See photo 4) There is some wear and damage to the item (see photo 3) and the covers and each page have a small hole (see photos 8 and 9) -- to add a string to link the sutra together? I don't know the age but it's at least vintage and could well be antique. I bought this in Burma in the late 1970s. Apologies if the pages are presented upside down -- I don't read the language.
