As the Allies began wrestling control of their colonies away from the Japanese in 1945, traditional supplies of banknotes resumed. According to The Banknote Book: Hong Kong, this interesting banknote was prepared by the British Military Authority to replace old, worn-out banknotes in circulation, in advance of the traditional shipment of banknotes from England.However, this overprinted stock was ultimately unissued, as Bradbury, Wilkinson & Company was able to print a batch and organize its delivery to Hong Kong before these emergency issues could be released. Only a small number of these unissued, overprinted types were saved.
