Dated 1786, you can find the same pair in the south drawing room of the Octagon House in Washington DC built in 1799 (1741). The Octagon House is most notably known for Dolley Madison and President Madison's residents after the British burned the White House. Coade stone was quite a luxury, made exclusively for the English Kings and Nobleman. You can find Coade stone items at Buckingham Palace, St. George's Chapel, Windsor and the Royal Pavilion. Eleanor Coade's firm made items from 1769-1821, by Appointment to King George lll and the Prince Regent. Made of a lithodipya stone it is weather-resistant.
