They are said to have been used in the Civil War era by doctors to treat soldiers and veterans with neurological disorders. Manufactured in the USA by W.H. BURNAP, New York. Original paper label affixed to the inside, as pictured. The machine was designed to operate via a crank at the front that would generate electrical currents. The mechanism is fitted in a nicely made wood box measuring 10" X 4.5" X 4.5". The crank has a turned bone handle. This estate find is in AS FOUND condition. It is dirty, smells old, and I'm not sure if it is complete . The crank handle turns the mechanism but again, but I am not sure it is all there. I pictured the mechanism for you to analyze.
