This is a Ming Dynasty Period, carved & painted, rustic, wood pillar top, or staircase banister top - the hole in the top may indicate a plinth for another object. Each of the 4 sides have lovely artwork. My favorite being the Immortal Manjusri or GuanYin, (with halo around head) Seated on a Beast. Manjusri with "halo" riding a beast foo dog LongLife Immortal Qilin Kilin Deer with Immortal Possibly Happy Buddha(?) resting and another Immortal feeding a bird or a food tester tasting from bowl Unusual and eye-catching Dimensions approximately 23” X 12” square I have purchased this while living in China during the 1990's.
