Seller: antiquecinci (234) 100%, Location: Cincinnati, Ohio, Ships to: US, Item: 263435156255 This auction is for 2 vintage fobs and keys from the Chicago Drake Hotel which opened in 1920 and has 537 rooms, 74 suites, and a 6-room presidential suite. This hotel has been a destination for presidents, celebrities and royalty for almost 100 years. During the 1930's Francesco Nitto, a member of Al Capone's outfit, maintained his office for a time in suites at the Drake. The front of the fob features the words: "AQUILA NON CAPIT MUSCAS", which is Latin for: "The eagle does not catch flies". In ancient Rome eagles were considered very regal and flies were thought of as being lowly. The accepted interpretation of this saying is that people (eagles) of high ranking do not bother with people (flies) of lowly status. The keys are original to the fobs and are numbered 648 and 814.
