CELESTRON NEXSTAR HEAVY DUTY, ADAPTER MOUNT, FOR CAMERA, WORKS ON SE 6/8 MOUNT

This mount was made to specifically serve the SE 6/8 mount to reach out beyond the cradle jaws of the mount.  It is large enough to allow a camera to be mounted  as pictured with room to spare. The Sony camera shown with the SE 6/8 mount has a screw to side dimension of about 3 inches, As the picture shows there is about 1/2 inch to spare so up to 3.5 inches from screw to side camera dimension will fit on the SE 8 mount, more on the smaller Nexstar mounts. The 3rd picture shows a C90 lens mounted to the C8 Nexstar and is a good picture showing the size of this mount.

This adapter can also be used on LCM, GT and other Nexstar mounts including the SLT mounts with special attention needed for some.  The SLT mounts vary in size and configuration so refer to the last 3 pictures.  The smallest scope mount is the 60 size and it has different cradle jaws.  The dovetail holder of the 60 does not open much more than required and this makes for difficult and sometimes tight insertion of the adapter and will require you to learn how to work the installation. The larger SLT scope sizes may or may not have this same difficulty.  See the picture of two different SLT mounts. This shows both a straight on view and a side view.

My building process may allow (but not always) an interference with the "L" and a small portion of the cradle of the Nexstar mount.  This will require removing by filing or dremelling a little plastic from the jaws that are interfering with insertion of straight through removing of the adapter. So far I have only found this interference on the cradle on the side with the tightening screw.   See the last photo to see a split  picture of the cradle interference possible with both mounts.  A very small point of the black cradle is interfering (at the long length) with the "L" of the adapter.

With SLT mounts I find it easier to install the adapter to the mount before installing the scope or camera.  Included an assortment of 1/4-20 screws, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8 in long and a longer screw with a wing nut. Never use a screw that bottoms out when tightening,  Use the wing nut &screw by hand tightening till it bottoms , then  back out 1/4 to 1/2 turn, hold the Allen head with the wrench and tighten in place with the wing nut. Count the turns from insertion until bottoming. It is best to have at least three turns holding your optics in place.

This mount should adapt your camera, lens, scope or spotter with a camera pad very well to your Nexstar mount.

Please Note the below message (in red) I received from a buyer, I want to share it with you.

Also note that his description of the item is incorrect and oversimplified. I am exceeding his demands and even paying his return shipping. My description is correct and my pictures clearly show the product is not just a cut  piece of angle or channel stock with holes drilled in it. Of course he mentions that the item does not match the description of my building process even though there is no description of my building process in the listing. If you read my listing and look at the pictures and see any resemblance to what he has described please do not purchase one. The adapter is strong, and works very well. It is hand made at home and  my tools are a saw, drill press, sander and my 78 year old fingers. The pictures show the mount as it is , saw cuts and all. This was not a simple task for me and it was not easy because to come up with one that worked took a lot of effort on my part.  I do expect that the design will be copied and prepared to be manufactured with modern CNC machines. Although I like it as metal somebody will make it with plastic injection molding. THANKS FOR READING THIS FAR and now for his message, and BTW did you ever hear of an elementary school metal shop?

"This is a very poorly constructed part with no care put into making it. It s simply saw cut from angle or channel stock, drilled and thrown into a bag. Very unprofessional that does not match your description of your building process. I was a machinist and know that you should of milled the edges, or at the very least sanded them to a even surface. This is something that could of been made in a elementary school metal shop. You have a good idea and the market for it but presentation and finish is everything. You produced junk. I ll eat the shipping but Im not paying $26 for this. Finish your edges,  and at the minimum bead blast i t "

  • I made only a few of these and added the message of “when these are gone there will be no more” because the larger cuts required on the heavier millstock aluminum were taxing my saw and giving me concerns. This message was added before the critique of this buyer. See my other items and you will view my smaller adapters.

The magnifier Has been activated now for a closer look at the adapter.

The last 4 pictures are of the item that was returned to me. I do not think this needs to be said to most of you but here I say presentation and finish are very far from everything and are indeed nothing if an item doesn't do what it is intended to do.

When these are gone there will be no more. Maybe one more just to keep this story alive.
