Gray's Anatomy Descriptive & Surgical 1908 17th Edition -- Excellent Interior, Worn Cover. The book is copyrighted 1908. The interior of the book is in excellent condition, with just a loose first blank page and a water stain on the top edge of the last few pages of the index. The content pages are white, clear, and unmarked. The book is illustrated with 1149 engravings including many color plates with one or more colors. The exterior is in good shape but worn and has frayed corners. The binding is cracked away from the first and last pages, but is still well-attached. I believe the exterior is leather. My grandmother, Francis Troyer, owned and used this book in her study to become a DC (Doctor of Chiropractic). She was born in 1889 and around 1909 at age 20 she wanted to become a doctor, but it wasn’t easy for a woman at that time to enter the medical field. She bravely went from Northern Indiana to Chicago, single and by herself, to study to become a chiropractor, which in the early 1900's had a status similar to medical doctors. An inscription in the book says: Fanny Troyer, DC, 315 Walnut Ave, Chicago, Ill. She completed her DC and returned to Northern Indiana, married Dennis Yoder, had 3 children and practiced full time while raising her children. She also later went to Ohio where she studied and became a naturopath. I remember her treating me and adjusting me when I was young and often giving me herbal remedies. She was an amazing woman and a definite pioneer. This book was passed to Fanny's daughter and eventually to me, but I have no one to pass it on to, so I'd like it to find a new home with someone who cares about history, medicine, and the women who pioneered into the medical profession.
