Seller: whatwegot (2,708) 100%, Location: Kingsburg, California, Ships to: US, Item: 153638960736 You are looking at a wonderful authentic dagger from the Luristan culture. This was once a prized possession to someone who once lived This is a substantive bronze fighting knife or dagger. It has a flanged handle (which is apparent in the image looking at the end of the hilt). There is a heavy bezel that wraps each side of the handle. This bezel once held a decoration for the inlaid handle - made of stone, wood, bone, metal . . . The pommel end is crescent shaped. The tang is wide with a central midrib that gradually tapers to the tip. The artisan who made this blade used a lost wax casting technique, casting the blade first, and then casting the handle into the blade. This piece had an accented point on the sides of the handle - which is not common. The patina is wonderful, greens, blues and browns. This piece has an overall length of 12 1/2". The blade measures about 8 1/4" long and 1 3/4" wide. The handle is about 4 3/8" long, with the width of the hilt being 1 3/4" wide by the blade, and the pommel is about 1 3/8" wide. The thickness of the bezel at the widest is almost 1/2". The Luristan culture existed in Northwestern Iran from about 1,200 bc to 800 bc. This is an exceptional example of Bronze Age weaponry. Please ask questions if you like. Condition: This piece is in remarkable condition considering that this is about 3,000 years old! Look at the photos - there is a great patina over everything! The handle had been inlaid once upon a time - when there were Pharaohs on the continent. The tip is broken off as shown - and the loss of the material is ancient (just look at the tip photo - the patina covers the area of the loss). It looks like someone cleaned an area of the blade long ago, but the area has again oxidized. I really like this piece. I consider it to be museum quality., Material: Bronze, Provenance: Estate of Mast
