Up for sale are 3 watch and clock books: Collector’s Illustrated Price Guide: Antique Watches , Watch Collecting , and The Craft of The Clockmaker .

This lot includes:

·        Collector’s Illustrated Price Guide : Antique Watches by Bill Schroeder. Watch collecting is a very popular hobby that offers the collector many choices. Hundreds of different watches have been manufactured over the years by a multitude of companies. The most popular watches are those that were produced by the major companies – Waltham, Elgin, Illinois Dueber-Hampden, Hamilton Howard, South Bend, etc. The prices in this guide are for movements that are in excellent condition and still running. The prices are for movements on a retail level and the cases are priced separately in this guide. So, to price a watch, the value of the movement must be added to the cost of the case. This book is not intended to present a complete picture of each type of collectible but rather a representative sampling of the collectible, within space limitations, including an accurate current value. Please not that while the prices in this book are now long out of date, the book can still be used for movement and case identification. 64 pages. Soft cover. Copyright 1977. Excellent condition.

·        Watch Collecting by Kenneth Ullyett. This book is a buyer’s guide to and historical account of watches. As collectors we prefer to look back over the past, to the age of the verge, the stackfreed, to the gilt-bronze and pinchbeck-gold, to the repousse silver and the painted enamel. Some of these examples may be seen in the great museums, and are beyond the scope of the amateur collector. This is why this book does not go into intricate detail regarding complex escapements, or the multitude of horological improvements made by geniuses such as Abraham-Louis Breguet and Graham, Tompion and Le Roy. Of course one always hopes to make bargain-basement discoveries of this order, and there are forgeries for the unwary. This book concentrates mainly on the general field of watches which the amateur may hope to find and enjoy, but there are sections on a wider range so that the entire hobby of collecting and appreciating early watches can be put into proper perspective. This is 144 pages of good reading. Hard cover with jacket. Copyright 1970. Excellent condition.

·        The Craft of the Clockmaker by E.J. Tyler. Mr. Tyler describes the advance from the fairly primitive church clocks of the middle ages to the very complex repeater watches of the Victorians and the electric watches and clocks of today. There is good history in this book, with a different and interesting approach with a good chapter on 16th and 17th century clocks. The book is illustrated with photographs and diagrams and is a good book for the collector or the researcher. 96 pages. Hard cover with jacket. Copyright 1973. Excellent condition. – Book 646
