Seller: lazydogantiques (1,266) 100%, Location: Chicago, Illinois, Ships to: US, Item: 151678081068 This is an amazing hand carved teak wood Asian temple entryway. The entryway is intricately carved with heavy relief and made up of two doors and an archway. Each door depicts a devata. Devatas are smaller, more focused devas- the Hindu word for diety. These particular devatas could be apsaras, one of the well-known Hindu-Buddhist heavenly beings. Apsara is a heavenly maiden, a female spirit of the clouds and waters in Hindu and Buddhist mythology. English translations of the word "apsara" include nymph, celestial nymph, and celestial maiden. Images of apsaras are found in several temples and depicted either in standing or flying positions, usually holding lotus blossoms, spreading flower petals, or waving celestial clothing as if they were wings. The vertical pillars that make up the outer frame of the entryway have an elaborately carved floral design which incorporates smaller angels and the heads of Foo dogs, or foo lions/dragons. The archway top has the same floral design with a standing Buddha in the center. There are screw holes and a few knicks from previous use. There is a chip to each of the bottom inside corners of the doorway. Otherwise, overall condition is excellent. As shown here for display purposes, both the archway and the doors are flush mounted to the wall with the archway directly over the doors. The archway had to be raised about 10 1/2" off the ground for this. Most likely, the archway was originally set a bit in front of the doors so that a person would have to walk through the archway first, and then through the doors. Either way is fine. Approximate measurements are: Doors- 17 1/2" wide by 81" long each, not including the large "hingepin" on the bottom. (The hingepin adds about 4"). Archway- Overall height to the top of buddha's head- 123" as displayed. Deduct 10 1/2" if mounted flush with floor. Height of opening- 93" floor to peak as displayed, or about 82 1/2" if mounted flush with floor. Each vertical column below the archway topper- 16 1/4" wide at the top, 22" at the bottom. Archway topper- 64" across at the widest. We want you to be thrilled with your purchase from us. We offer a 100% guaranteed refund of your purchase price if the item is not as described.
