A single soul dwelling in two bodies.” Aristoteles (also known as Aristotle) was a Greek philosopher born 384 BC in the town of Stagira (northern Greece). Aged eighteen, he joined Plato's Academy in Athens and remained there until the age of thirty-seven (347BC). Shortly after Plato death's, Aristoteles left Athens and, at the request of Philip of Macedonia, and tutored Alexander the Great between 356 BC-323 BC. Teaching Alexander the Great, provided Aristotle with plenty of opportunities and an abundance of resources. He established a library in the Lyceum which aided in the production of many of his hundreds of books. During the course of his life immersed himself in empirical studies and shifted from Platonism to empiricism. In total his work constitutes the first comprehensive system of Western Philosophy. His writings cover many subjects – including Physics, Biology, Zoology, Metaphysics, Logic, Ethics, Aesthetics, Poetry, Theater, Music, Rhetoric, Linguistics and Goverment. He believed all people's concepts and all of their knowledge was ultimately based on perception. Aristotele's views on physical science profoundly shaped medieval scholarship. That influence extended into the Renaissance Era and were not replaced until the Enlightment and theories such as Classical Mechanics. Some of Aristotele's zoological observations were not confirmed until the 19th century.
