Seller: johnfarns (1,896) 100%, Location: Clyde, North Carolina, Ships to: US & many other countries, Item: 262844002466 THIS IS A SHAFT REPLACEMENT FOR THE ARC-5 COMMAND SET RECEIVERS POPULAR WITH HAMS AND SHORTWAVE LISTENERS. MADE OF 6061 ALUMINUM, AND ABOUT 28mm OR 1.1" LONG, IT HAS A 6mm BORE, 0.3 INCHES DEEP, ON ONE END THAT FITS ON THE TUNING SHAFT OF THE ARC-5 RECEIVER. THERE ARE TWO 4-40 SETSCREWS THAT TIGHTEN ONTO THE SHAFT. SETSCREWS USE A 0.050" HEX WRENCH WHICH IS INCLUDED. THE OTHER END IS A STANDARD 1/4" SHAFT THAT FITS THE COMMONLY AVAILABLE KNOB OF YOUR CHOICE (NOT INCLUDED) THE OUTSIDE DIAMETER IS APPROX. 8.8mm, WHICH IS A PERFECT FIT FOR THE 9mm BORE IN THE ARC-5 RECEIVER. BY HAVING THE SHAFT AND THE COUPLER INTEGRATED INTO ONE PIECE, YOU SAVE MONEY SINCE THERE IS NO 1/4" SHAFT TO PURCHASE. JUST SLIP ONTO YOUR ARC-5 TUNING CAPACITOR SHAFT, TIGHTEN THE SETSCREWS WITH THE INCLUDED WRENCH, AND ADD THE KNOB OF YOUR CHOICE. THAT'S ALL THERE IS TOO IT! INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING THIS ADAPTER SHAFT: There are two ways to install the adapter shaft, the first is tried and true, but a little involved. The second is much simpler, but has not been tried, as far as I know, and is experimental in nature. If you use the second method and are successful, please share your experience. The first way: to install the adapter shaft on the ARC-5 receiver is to remove it's front panel. This requires drilling off four small aluminum rivets, two on each lower side and four on the front middle and taking out nine screws around the rim of the front panel and ten on the front itself. Unscrew the cap that holds on the tuning dial disc and slide off the front panel. Then you have access to the spline gears and can simply slide on the adapter, screw down the set screws (apply a little Loctite if you like), then replace the front panel, sliding the ARC-5 shaft sleeve down over the new shaft. Then replace the various screws, replace the tuning dial disc and tighten back its cap, then slide on a 1 1/8" or 1 1/4" knob with a standard 1/4" shaft size, tighten the knob set screw, and your ready to go with no backlash or slippage in the tuning. The second way: This does not require any disassembly of the receiver. Fill the coupler void about 1/4th full of silicon or liquid metal or another glue, and slide it onto the spline shaft and let it sit overnight to harden. Since the spline has voids that can accept whatever sticky material is filled into the coupler end, this should work provided the "stuff" dries hard enough to fuse the coupler to the spline. This second method has not been tried, but should work. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, LET ME KNOW BY eMAIL. JOHN kw2n (find at QRZ) Condition: New
