Seller: rutahsa (564) 100%, Location: Cookeville, Tennessee, Ships to: US, Item: 113905894239 Unusual antique copper stirrups from Honduras, Central America I acquired these very unusual stirrups around 1974 when I was living in Tegucigalpa. The are unlike any other antique stirrups I ever saw or bought…and I was highly interested in colonial bronze stirrups and colonial style wooden stirrups which antique dealers (referred to as “coyotes”) brought into town from villages in the hinterlands. These particular stirrups are small, but heavy, being solid metal, copper in my opinion (but possibly a copper-rich variety of bronze). They are small, and I am guessing were made for the child of a wealthy hacendado or other member of Honduras’ traditional ruling elite. When, you might wonder? I am guessing these are from the 19th century, but Honduras in many ways remained in the 19th century well into the mid-20th century, so they could be from the early 1900s. Or, for that matter, they could be from the colonial period (pre-1823), but I have no evidence for this. Whatever their age, they are unusual (possibly one-of-a-kind), scarce, good collector’s items and a souvenir of bye-gone times in Honduras. One stirrup has a flaw: the narrow bar where the stirrup would connect to the saddle has been broken; it is glued into place and looks just fine, but would not stand actual use as a stirrup.(Kennedy half dollar for scale, not for sale!) 800x600 Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4
