The anchor is from the CIRCASSIAN built in 1856 at Robert Hickson & Co. in Belfast, Ireland. The shipyard was renamed Harland & Wolf in 1861 and built the TITANIC in 1911.The CIRCASSIAN was captured as a blockade runner during the Civil War and refit as the USS CIRCASSIAN. After the war the vessel returned to merchant service. The vessel grounded offshore Mecox Life Saving Station, New York in December 1876 and broke up with the loss of 28 men on December 29, 1876.
