Description: This beautiful antique pouring beer stein was made in 1880s - 1890s
The stein is made of saltglazed stoneware with coblat-blue glaze - the traditional Westerwald style employed by many Westerwald manufacturers for several centuries. It is made in popular at the time Historismus style imitaing beer steins from 1600 - early 1700s. The front panel shows a Coat-of-Arms with Munich Child - the symbol of the city of Munich for many centuries. On the sides there are some fantasy creatures.
The lid is pewter. There is a manufacturer's mark above the word "Germany" - "M.A." I don't know this mark and I don't know who made the stein. This is some rare manufacturer from the Westerwald area. The model number is 1302
It is 7" to the top of the thumblift, 0.5 L capacity. Excellent flawless condition with some age-related wear.
