Antique Vintage Turkish Moroccan Islamic Pierced Brass Hanging Lamp Lantern 22". This is an old, Middle Eastern (Islamic / Turkish / Moroccan / Moorish) Pierced Brass & Red Glass Mosque Oil Lamp. The piece is profusely decorated with mythical creatures, some slightly human, others fantastical. There are ten panels of red glass encircling the center of the lamp, each flanked by balusters topped in an alternating fashion with the crescent moon and rooster (or similar fowl). The lamp is suspended from the ceiling by five lengths of chain attached to a solid brass ceiling canopy. Very nice rough gourd form with terminating finial at bottom and fluted top. The lamp itself is about 22" tall and hangs down about 14" from the ceiling. The lamp is about 12" in diameter at the widest point. There is a bottom cap on the lamp that gives you access to the inside. The cap is notched and comes off when you turn it slightly counterclockwise. This is an old example of this type of lamp. The is real, pierced brass, not punched, brass-colored tin. The panels are made of glass, not colored film. The brass has taken on a patina with age that you cannot find in today's cheap reproductions. This is a fine, old lamp that will show well in your home. Please Note: The lamp has been electrified. This item is in Very Good Condition. All of the red glass panels are intact. The light socket is working. There are no dents in the central body of the lamp, but there are dents along the rim of the bottom cover (because somebody did not know how to properly remove the bottom cap - grrr!).
