Antique Vintage Miniature 4 Panel Screen 24 Hand Painted Chinese Opera Masks
This is an antique or vintage miniature black lacquered four panel screen with 24 handpainted Chinese opera masks attached.
I am uncertain as to its exact age, but I would estimate it dates from the 1920s or 1930s.
It measures 7 3/8 inches tall (18.7 cm). When fully opened, it measures 11 3/4 inches across (30 cm). Each of the masks measures 1 inch x 3/4 inch (2.54 cm x 1.9 cm).
According to my research, these are Chinese facial make-up opera masks. I'm not sure if they were originally sold in a box and attached to the screen, or if this piece was made that way originally.
The masks are in very good condition. There is scuffing and some wear to the black lacquered screen. The back has a lot of staining on it and the paper is torn around one of the screens.
It opens and closes up well.
The entire piece weighs a little over 7 ounces (202 g).
