We are offering for your consideration an exquisite, silver plated, Samovar or Hot Water Urn manufactured in Dorchester, Massachusetts by R Gleason & Sons in the 1850’s. A very special antique piece that has a removable tea strainer which is a rare addition to a samovar. The piece measures 13.25 inches high, 11 inches between the handles and 6.50 inches wide between the feet. The urn shaped samovar has a lovely etched floral and leaf design on the body. Two curved handles have Acanthus leaf thumb rests. The base has a highly detailed, cut out, geometric design which extends onto the four scrolled out feet. The long protruding spout allows for ample room to pour its contents into a cup and saucer placed below. The spout turns on and off easily. The high domed cover is topped with a cylindrical shaped finial. The burner screws into the bottom of the samovar. It is marked, "Walkers Safety Lamp" and notes two pattern dates of, "July 1850" and "July 1859". The burner has three, wicked valves that each has a cover attached by means of small chains. Considering its age of 164 years young, the samovar is in EXCELLENT READY TO USE ESTATE CONDITION. There is no silver plate loss to note and no dents, or repairs. The inside is clean with a very small amount of staining. The removable tea strainer goes on and off easily and is clean with no rust or pitting. A great antique piece that will impress when used.
