Seller: smokysalt (120) 100%, Location: San Diego, California, Ships to: US, Item: 293293776470 Outstanding vintage condition. Appears to be complete. Rarely does one encounter such tip-top state of preservation on these old "medical" devices. A beautiful, well-maintained wooden box made entirely of quarter sawn oak (tiger oak) with dovetail joinery on all four corners. Housing box is completely sturdy & sound. Includes all-original brass hardware and fold-down carry handle. Inside is a 'Faradic battery', apparently and early defibrillation device (though I cannot speak to it's degree of effectiveness). The directions sheet is inside the lid, and at the bottom of the paper is a turn-latch that opens to reveal a storage compartment in the top that is sufficiently large to hold the 'core shield', the pair of electrodes & their cables, and the 'ball attachment' (the long stainless steel rod with the slidable ball on it). I was able to determine how to attach this: the hook on one end of the ball attachment goes through two holes in the 'vibration spring' at the left end of the coil, first a horizontal one followed by a vertical one, allowing the ball attachment to be attached in an upright position. "The vibration can be regulated by moving the ball up and down; the higher up the ball is, the slower the vibration will be." In other words, it adjusts the frequency. The vibration spring has a 'vibration screw' on the far left that can be tightened/loosened, also to adjust the speed of the vibration. Calibrated indication measurement strip, just in front of the coil, is fully intact. The switch on the right sets the strength of the currents at low or high, and the double-contact switch on the left controls the polarity of the currents. Two brass screws on either side of the main panel (the 'base') can be removed to gain access to the large battery compartments below. Another quote from the directions: "The different currents produced are obtained by placing the cord pegs in various combinations of the three binding posts on the front of the base. The two first ones give the primary current. The two last ones give the secondary current. The first and the last one gives primary and secondary combined. The strength of the current can be varied by moving the regulator or core shield of the coil; the further out the shield is drawn the stronger the current becomes."If you're of a mind to test the gizmo out on your loved ones, these antique magneto-electric quackery devices often can handle a higher voltage battery than that of the original ones (1.5 volts, in this case).Dimensions: 9" x 6.5" x 8".
