Middletown Silver Co Antique Silver Plate Handled Footed Condiment Glass Dish. This c 1880 condiment dish has been in decades of service, and eventually part of an estate collection for a most probably eventful 142 years. What stories it must hold! It’s in good vintage condition, with the substantial 4 1/4” diameter glass insert bowl intact with no chips or cracks, and its pierced and footed bowl holder with basket handle still lovely and functional. Its metal is “silver deposit on nickel silver,” and marked with the Middletown Silver Co. icon which was an “M,” an “S” and a “C,” each letter inside a crown. Formed in 1864 by Edward Payne and Henry Bullard, the company manufactured Britannia and plateware under the name of Payne, until it was the Middletown Silver Company, among the original group that formed International Silver Co. In 1899, the operation was moved to Meriden and merged with the Meriden Britannia Co., which grew to include most silver plate manufacturers in the United States. The antique condiment server would be a most thoughtful hostess/host gift, or, as a marmalade dish, would add to a civilized daily ritual of tea and biscuits. Shipped with USPS Parcel Select Ground.
