Seller: sailerking (9,608) 99.8%, Location: Portland, Oregon, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 332836363218 This is an antique Japanese tea or sake pot known as a Choshi dating to the early Taisho Era (c. 1918). It is made of cast iron and has raised relief images of a Japanese family crest (mon) in the shape of chrysanthemum flowers and paulownia leaf (see pictures 6 & 7). The lid is made of lacquered hinoki wood (see picture 10). The choshi has a long spout (see picture 5) which aided in pouring hot sake into the typically small sakazuki (sake cup). It has a tripod base (see picture 9) for level standing. This choshi comes with original box. There is a Japanese writing on the box, Iron Choshi for tea ceremony- Koudai tample design (see last picture). It measures 4 3/4" (12 cm) in diameter and the spout measures 2" long (5 cm) by 3 1/2" tall (9 cm ) (6 1/2" tall (16.5 cm) with the handle). The original box measures 7 3/4" wide by 5 1/2" deep by 7 1/2" tall (19.5 x 14 x 19 cm).
