Seller: japanpicker (865) 100%, Location: Portland, Oregon, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 123405052343 This is a vintage Japanese Satsuma ceramic tea cup and saucer from the 1920's. Both tea cup and saucer have hand painted designs of plum blossoms, bamboo, and warblers (uguisu birds). The overall glaze is a creamy crackle glaze as is typical in most Satsuma pottery during the Taisho Era. There is an artist's signature, Ohashi, on the bottom of both the tea cup and saucer (see pictures 3, 4, & 8). This style of demi cup was more suited to the strong sencha type teas as well as strong Turkish coffee which were in style in the mid to late Taisho Era.This tea cup measures 2 " (5 cm) in diameter by 2" (5 cm) tall. The saucer measures 4 3/4" in diameter by 3/4" tall (11.5 x 2 cm). Both remain in fine condition. Please view the enlarged pictures to enjoy the fine workmanship.
