They specialized in ornamental iron works, most popular Cemetery iron creations. The metal tag on gate identifies it as being made by: COMPOSITE IRON WORKS COMPANY in business during 1873 at 109 Mercer Street later moving to 83 Reade Street NEW YORK, 1884 This company was located in New York City in the late 1800's and specialized in plain and ornamental iron works, railing opera seats. There was a profusion of cast iron foundries in New York, and Composite Iron Works was known for some of the most well executed and elaborate. They were commissioned in 1904 to create an iron alter railing for the famous Mexico Zacatecas Cathedral-Composite Iron Works Co was the only copany in New York willing to undertake such a feat. #F-3- Fleur de lis finial tops - NIce curves in center top piece- This is a larger taller gate- in the style" bow and picket" and"hairpin" – 49 ½ w x 51 ½ tall( On my other Ebay listings you'll find fencing to match this gate if interested) Price is for one gate-Just decide which gate you prefer! Whichever gate all are great for a special architectural garden accent. The cemetery style fence- I may be wrong but my mother always told me the loop style fenceing was used for cemetery fencing- i assume in old days the old loop stye fence adorned front and side yards of victorian home- then as well it was so suited for the perimeter small border around a family grave plot-- my mother had a large family and gathered this style fenceing so shed have enough to border a relatives grave-- but it was also used to beautify my back yard and can make a nice small garden accent with this special gate. All in good condition for its age. Rust but no major breaks and in good shape. Nice details. The gate can be easily painted to match your style and décor or left as is for a great old patina. What a nostalgic way to add an authentic Victorian flavor to your property. The original collector of this fencing began collecting antiques, and antique architectural accesories from the many old homes that were torn down in Montgomery from the years 1935- 1970 and storing them in his warehouse with the intent of eventually building a home with them.
