Seller: mdarchitecturalrescue (2,210) 100%, Location: Baltimore, Maryland, Ships to: US, Item: 311432295855 These Could be the COOLEST Industrial Artifacts I have EVER had.A couple of years ago, we had the opportunity to work on a once in a lifetime salvaging job at HERSHEY Chocolate Factory. I can remember as a child going to this place for a tour and the air was SOOOOOOOOOO overwhelming from the scent of Cocoa that I actually got SICK. Of course, at my young age, I had no idea .............. nor did I care ............... That the awesome rollers that you are looking at were the reason for the smell. What you are looking at are parts of a circa 1915 CHOCOLATE CONCHE. I know, I had never heard of one either. A chocolate conche is a huge steel or iron tub about 10 X 12 feet with a corrugated granite bottom and a group of these granite rollers with a matching corrugated profile. Hundreds of pounds of Cocoa beans would be dumped into the Conche and these rollers would break the hard outer shell of the bean and begin the process of making CHOCOLATE! Too Cool! Here is a link to a Wikipedia article that will tell you more: CLICK HERE This is actually a link to a very similar conche on Youtube to show how they worked: CLICK HERE What we are offering is a beautiful yard object, piece of furniture, or anything you can imagine! It will still be around for CENTURIES after we are all dust. This is one of the original granite rollers in the original curved base that fit into the bottom of the HUGE Conche tubs. The rollers and base are made of machined gray Granite. The roller measures 22 1/2" long and is approximately 11 1/2" in diameter. The base measures 24" X 38 . The thickness varies from 7" at the ends to 4 1/2" in the center. The granite roller attach's to a U shaped bracket made of cast iron and then 2 of the rollers with U bracket would normally attach to a cast iron Yoke on top. I estimate their Weight at about 750 pounds together How many times have you been in to a restaurant with an Industrial Chic Vibe and wondered what Chemically Soaked atmosphere this old junk came from? About Us MD Architectural Rescue is a different type of recycling company. We have operated in Baltimore and surrounding areas since 1996. After starting out rescuing fireplace mantles and cast iron door locks from construction dumpsters, we have opened our eyes to many types of waste that are overlooked and often fall through the cracks. Our focus is, and will always be vintage items of the highest quality. All of our items are salvaged and are for the most part American made. One week we could be in an old school, the next week a factory, and the following week a Shipyard or Power Plant. One day we may be removing Vintage lighting, the next Signs and Vintage blueprints, and the following day we clean out the Machine shop and parts crib.We literally have NO idea what we have coming around the corner, so make sure you add us to your favorites and check back often . ALSO, check out our sister eBay site MDindustrialsalvage for items of a more industrial nature. We are not a non-profit, but prefer to call ourselves a VIRTUAL non-profit. You can help us change that by purchasing our finds from our store, and bidding vigorously on our auctions. With your support, it will better enable us to track down historic job sites to salvage before it's to late. You may be interested in many of our other eBay listings: CLICK HERE Material: Granite
