  This listing is for a lovely large antique Art Nouveau period glass perfume or cologne bottle or decanter with elaborate American Sterling Silver overlay decoration.

This gorgeous bottle is decorated with an intricate Sterling Silver overlay design that covers the entire body and has an extra large cartouche on the front for a monogram (unused). There is also a wide Sterling Silver overlaid neck and mouth with a large round matching glass stopper. The sterling is marked within a small cartouche on the lower back side "Patent, Gorham Mfg. Co., 5, 999/1000 Fine" and also has the trademark stamp of the Alvin Manufacturing Co. engraved on the same cartouche. Both Gorham and Alvin operated in Providence RI in the early 1900's and evidently collaborated in some way in the production or decoration on this piece.

The bottle measures 7 1/2" high (with stopper inserted), 5 1/4" high (to top of bottle) with a 2 1/4" diameter top and a 5 1/4" overall width. Weighs 2.3 pounds.

Both the bottle and stopper are in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws other than a tiny no-harm nick in the center cartouche and some faint scratches on the base from normal wear. The elaborate silver overlay work has nice details and is free of damage. There may possibly have been a monogram removal at some time, however, the silver on the cartouche is thick and clean. This bottle is larger than normally found and is a true beauty!
