Seller: frantique2000 (11,428) 100%, Location: Yorkshire, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 351912204845 Entirely genuine, original and authentic.11cm x 13cm, 440 grams."Pré" means meadow. Best guess is that G Adoue was a farmer and commissioned this plate from the local blacksmith and mounted it on his cart or hay wain.It is a very crude sand casting. The blacksmith would have used typing blocks to impress the letters in the sand.Saint-Gaudens, in Haute-Garonne, existed as a community in the Iron Age. It took its current name from a shepherd martyred in the sixth century.Although Adoue is an uncommon French family name, the fact that 71 of the 160 Adoues currently in France live in Haute-Garonne makes it difficult to put a first name and date to this plaque. It is certainly C19th, possibly earlier.UK shipping free of charge. Elsewhere £12. PayPal, UK/GBP cheques or bank transfer. Please see my other listings if you like French signs and numbers. Condition: see pic, Type: Plaques/ Signs, Style: French, Material: Iron/ Cast iron
