There are several different designs. In the center is a charming pattern of embroidered four dancers with grapes, chandelier, trumpet, curling ribbons and bows....surrounded by leaves and flowers. Then there are diamond shapes surrounding this. More flowers and heavenly cherubs. In the midst of the cherubs are bird's nests with two birds. Then you have the children doing different things; such as, ice skating, fishing, hunting with bow and arrow, planting and picking flowers. There are months written in French in each of the children's designs. I'm thinking this most be the birth months of the family's children. Starting at the top left corner are the months of Avril and Mar; bottom left corner are Janvier and Juin; bottom right corner are Novembre and Octobre; top right corner are Septembre and then you have Avril again. The translation for the months are April, March, January, June, November, October and September. OH, YEAH. TO TOP IT OFF IS A FLEUR-DE-LIS DESIGN IN A DIAMOND SHAPE. (See very last photo.) MEASUREMENT: Approximately 98" x 100". Photographed on a full-sized bed. WEIGHT: 1 pound 9 ounces. This type of embroidery was popular during the 1850/1890s era, and are becoming more difficult to find these days. There are all different colors of the rainbow spectrum; such as, purple, dark blue, light blue, green, pink, yellow and brown. PLEASE NOTE: The colors are on the backside are much darker than the front. I have taken photos of both sides. The micro ribbon is very NARROW, about 1/8" wide. Diamond scalloped edge on three sides is finished with a narrow row of brown satin ribbon embroidery. The background net lace is dark ecru, which is lightweight and sturdy. French silk ombre ribbon was originally used for making small ribbonwork embroidery. MORE PHOTOS BELOW DESCRIPTION!!! I hope someone can keep this little treasure safe, or maybe have it restored.
