It has a beautiful patina, is in perfect condition and rare to find. Judging by the patina, I would place this about 1900 ad. It is perfect except for one small part of belt on the right back slightly bent. This piece of work is one of the best I have ever found in all of my travels in 40 years. The French colonials liked to smoke and have the beautiful Cambodian cultural items in plain sight, so a whole gamut of mythical creatures were put on ashtrays but using the artisans of top renown. Most pieces went unsigned, so the beauty of the items were evident without the creator ever being recognized. You now can have the art of masters on your shelf. In Southeast Asian mythology, Kinnaris, the female counterpart of Kinnaras, are depicted as half-bird, half-woman creatures. One of the many creatures that inhabit the mythical Himavanta. Kinnaris have the head, torso, and arms of a woman and the wings, tail and feet of a swan. She is renowned for her dance, song and poetry, and is a traditional symbol of feminine beauty, grace and accomplishment. This is one of the most beautiful art works of the SE Asian culture.
