It is hard to escape the legacy of the Punch Magazine. From 1841 to 2002, the magazine cast a satirical eye on life in Britain. It charted the interests, concerns and frustrations of the country and today it stands as an invaluable resource not just as cartoon art and satire, but as primary source material for historians.

Illustrator:  Linley-Sambourne (famous self-portrait from a photograph) , from British Punch humor/satire magazine, January 19, 1895, pulled from the magazine, not a modern reproduction. Size 8 x 10 1/2 inches.  Condition: very good -- still bright paper with some discoloration to upper edge, no handling wear, lays flat for easy framing; backside with unrelated text and some show-through on the facing side, as published.

“QUITE ENGLISH, YOU KNOW!”

Abdurrahman Khan (to himself): “I think this ‘ill fetch ‘em!”

[“Should the Ameer happily accomplish the visit to this country on which he has set his heart, he may be assured of a warm welcome do to one who, since his accession to supreme power in Afghanistan, has been the steady friend of Great Britain.” –Time]
