Seller: cold_stream_creations (517) 100%, Location: Warwick, Rhode Island, Ships to: US, Item: 183810165719 This is a very nice Cabin, Country Kitchen-style Iron Horse Lamp from the 1870s. The Frame has no breaks, cracks, or missing parts. The chains are good and the screws are original and matching. These lamps were very popular in the 1870s and 1880s; patent dates are usually 1876, 1877, sometimes marked and sometimes not. This one has an 1877 patent date on the motor. I have a similar frame hanging in my kitchen. It is a Copper Brown color and has required only dusting and yearly glass washing. These lamps usually had a Flat Black paint applied to them when made and over the years they have peeled or have been repainted. I restored this one. The base color is a Leather Brown Flat Enamel paint rather than the traditional Black. It has been highlighted with Copper and Gold to make the relief stand out and not appear flat. The metal is sealed and should last forever. To put the finish on, I used a tiny artist brush and thinned-out paint (less than 1/2 oz. for the entire project). The Chains are original with a new finish as they are typically unattractive from barn or attic storage. The lamp, as you see it, has a 36" drop. More height can be added with your particular ceiling canopy and chain. My kitchen lamp has been hanging with a Cast Brass, Antique looking Ceiling Canopy from Antique Lamp Supply.com and 3 links of heavy duty chain. As you pull the lamp down, the counter-weight Crown rises and the lamp lowers. I added an electric B & P solid Brass burner to mine and leave it stationary. Let's face it, the chains are from the 1870s! Let's not stress them out! This has a nice Antique Chimney and Oil burner. The Smoke Bell is a new Mosser glass slanted one. It looks best with these types of lamps and only the petite Antique ones fit between the chains. The lamp weighs more than 20 pounds, so the electric box will need to be screwed securely into wood. As an Oil Lamp, you may hang it from a Cast Iron Hook secured into the wood, like the beam in a Cabin or old house. The Cabin Font is especially nice and has painting all the way around. It holds water, so smokeless oil should be fine to use. As far as Ceiling Cap color, Bronze would be fine or you could get unfinished and paint it. The lamp will be carefully packaged and insured. We have shipped these types of lamps before and know that Cast Iron is breakable. We do not charge for wrapping materials, boxes, or insurance. Shipping, however, is not free. We do not guess. We wrap and weigh the item, measure the box, and your zip code determines the shipping price. Please review the pictures and read the entire write up before asking questions. FROM MAY 15 TO SEPT. 15, SHIPPING MAY BE DELAYED FOR UP TO TWO WEEKS AS WE TRAVEL IN SEARCH OF NEW ITEMS FOR OUR CUSTOMERS. IF YOU WANT SOMETHING TO ARRIVE BY A SPECIFIC DATE, LET US KNOW AND WE MAY BE ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE YOUR WISHES.
