Seller: howardturner (756) 100%, Location: Ridgefield, Connecticut, Ships to: US, Item: 253873506694 This a very early and rare Thracian or Macedonian Greek influenced terra cotta deep drinking jug or cup. It is 3 3/4" tall and 4" wide at widest point. The rim is 2 1/2' wide and is on top of a 1/4" flaring neck. The actual 2" opening to the cuo starts at the neck of the flaring rim. The handle is attached at the widest part of bowl and under part of the flaring neck. It is cylindrical but appears to have a small central rib which matches the other ribs of the cup. The bowl of the cup has eight sculptured rib sections about 1/8' wide starting where the bottom of the handle is attached and going down to its very small foot which is 1" in diameter. The upper part of the bowl which is about 1" has no decoration. It was found in the Balkans by a private collector and purchased by me from a Geramn gallery in 2005. It is shown as found with dirt and some ground discoloration. A beautiful example of very early pottery. It is in good condition with some tiny chips on the rim and foot---have to be felt to be seen. Material: terra cotta
