Seller: howardturner (719) 100%, Location: Ridgefield, Connecticut, Ships to: US, Item: 253691705852 This a very early and rare Thracian or Macedonian Grrek influenced terra cotta pottery deep jug or cup for every day use. It was found in the Balkans by private collector and purchased from a German Gallery in 2005. It is 3 3/4" tall and 4" wide at widest point. The rim is 2 1/2' wide and echinus in design as top of flaring rim is larger than actual open to bulbous bowl below. The handle is attached at the widest part of bowl and under part of the flaring rim. It is cylindrical but appears to have a small central rib. The bowl has seven sculptured lines around its lower half down to its very small foot which is 1" in diameter. The upper part of the bowl has no decoration. A beautiful example of very early pottery. It is in good condition with some tiny chips on the rim and foot---have to be felt to be seen. Material: terra cotta
