Seller: wear-the-past (2,024) 99.7%, Location: Salisbury, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 371786096877 This is a wonderful ancient Roman Republican period silver signet ring, dating to the 1st century B.C. The silver ring has a raised bezel, cut with a portrait of Venus. This type of portrait can be found on the silver denarii coinage of Julius Caesar (see here), who claimed descendancy from this goddess through Aeneas, who escaped with his father from Troy. The portrait is well engraved, except from some considerable wear to the surface of the ring - sadly rubbing the fine details. The ring has an ancient resizing mark to the band (this is not a crack) being fully stable and strong with old solder that has discolored over time. Being such a special and very old ring, it has been much worn and loved - likely passed down from successive generations. Today this ancient treasure has survived in good wearable condition, though as with most ancient rings should be worn with care and consideration!OBJECT: Signet RingCULTURE: Roman RepublicanDATE: c. 1st century A.D.MATERIAL: Silver RING SIZE: 4 1/2 (US) I 1/2 (UK)SIZE: 18.45mm x 17.16mm x 1.55mm (bezel 8.32mm x 8.62mm X 2.71mm)WEIGHT: 2.1gPROVENANCE: Ex.
