It is a mold terracotta of a seated female figure in an orant pose, a posture of prayer. The figure is seated with feet touching and hands held upwards, which was the position for adoration. These figures are believed to hold religious significance, such as, votives for the departed or representations of a fertility goddess, the figure has also been considered to be a symbol used in female rites of passage. The figure measures 5 1/4" x 3 1/2" and has remains of lime wash Crack around head otherwise intact. Provenance: Leeds/Wheaton Estate, acquired during the 1940's.
