This figure portrays the Mexican hair-less dog also known as the techichi or escuincle, which is believed to be a relative of the Chihuahua. They were believed to be healers, guardians to the dead and to safeguard the home from evil spirits and intruders. The statue is red ware polished. It stands on all four legs with ears in alert position. The statue was once broken into 6 pieces and was professionally restored. It has large amounts of manganese deposits from being buried for so long. The sculpture is genuine and was made in 200 BC. It measures approximately 12-1/2 inches long, 9 inches wide, and 9 inches in height. This restored piece is in excellent condition with no cracks or brakes and little evidence of repair.
