These ancient faience beads were made of a type of ceramic paste that was developed about 4000 BC in Egypt and Mesopotamia which was the forerunner of glass. Faience beads were produced primarily for funerary purposes and tons of faience beads were buried with the dead although faience beads were also worn by both the men and women of ancient Egypt. Good condition with a lot of surface wear this bead set was purchased from a forty year old private collection and largest specimen measures 6.87mm long by 12.24mm wide.
