Seller: 2309kramery (838) 100%, Location: Egham, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 254373703751 Authentic Ancient Egyptian Rare yellow Faience Tubular section from the handle of a Sacred Sistrum - a musical rattle used by priestesses in Egyptian temples to represent the sound of water for ceremonies surrounding worship of the Nile flood and fertility. New Kingdom, c. 1570 - 1070 B.C. The section comes from near the top of the handle and retains traces of hieroglyphs in black. The right hand column edge is preserved along with the body and legs of the Goose hieroglyph from the king's Sa Ra - Son of Ra (the sun god) title and the curved top of the cartouche where the king's name would have been. The following hieroglyphs would have contained a dedicatory inscription, usuually to the Goddess Isis or Hathor. W: 1.5" (4 cm); H: 9/16" (1.5 cm); D: 1" (2.5 cm).
