Description on paper included with original purchase: Ancient "Mummy-Bead" JewelryDynasty XXVI, circa 2,000 BC (Guaranteed Authentic)Here's your chance to wear jewelry that might have adorned an Egyptian princess up to 4,000 years ago. The Egyptian used small ceramic beads in great quantities, which came in a variety of earth tones ranging from light green to blue to soft red. Egyptian beads are often called "mummy beads" because they were often found in tombs. Faience is a mixture of powdered clays and lime, soda and silica sand. Mix this with a little water to make a paste and molded around a small stick or bit of straw. Now it is ready to be fired into a bead. As the bead heats up the soda sand and lime melt into glass that incorporates and covers the clay. The result is a hard bead covered in bluish glass. This process was probably discovered first in Mesopotamia and then imported to Egypt. But, it was Egyptians who made it their own art form. Condition: Good condition, as shown. Pictures are part of the description., Material: Faience, Type: Figure, Size: 35-40" long
