Item:123626376054Beautiful glazed blue faience ring from the period of Alexander the Great and Cleopatra, The Ptolemaic Period. The ring displays the Ankh Cross, the symbol of eternal life. It is found in ancient tomb inscriptions, including those of Tutankhamen. Egyptian gods are often portrayed carrying it by its loop, or bearing one in each hand , arms crossed over their chest. Ra is usually represented with the body of a man and the head of a hawk, holding an ankh and scepter. In ancient Egypt, only kings, queens and gods were allowed to carry the ankh, indicating that only the king or god holding it had the power to give life or take it away from lesser mortals.
