It comes from the area around the Caspian Sea and Turkestan. It is from either the Aghkan or slightly earlier Mazanderan culture. It dates 1000 AD to 1100 AD. The start of the Golden Age of pottery making in this area Ir depicts a spotted Sand Grouse on a floral background.. It uses the technique of suoerimposing slip painting over the englobe. Its calors are bright red, yellow, black and white maganese. . The bowl is 2 1/2" tall and 8 1/2" in diameter. It is 100% intact but does have restoration on one edge of the rim. It is a wonderful piece.
