I am selling a number of smaller sterling silver pieces by A E Jones, Oliver Baker for Liberty and other designers. For sale is this William Hutton & Sons silver and enamel jam or desert spoon. The spoon is designed by Kate Allen who worked alongside Kate Harris in Hutton's London studio from c 1898-1904. The spoon displays Allen's classic art nouveau style. The spoon is a good size and weight and is in very good antique condition,. The silver work shows no damage or repairs. The enamel is entirely original and without restoration. There is a tiny residual area of silver solder across the bottom of the top left enamel, which is I am sure original to manufacture and other tiny areas of enamel loss to the enamel edges. These are essentially not seen to the naked eye and do not detract from the piece. Please see images. The spoon is fully hallmarked for Huttons, London, 1904 The spoon is 15.5 cm long. The spoon weighs 37 grams, or 1.3 oz Jones was one of a number of leading arts and crafts silversmiths at the beginning of the twentieth century alongside the likes of Charles Ashbee of the Guild of Handicraft, Archibald Knox for Libertys Cymric range and Omar Ramsden and Alwyn Carr.
