Seller: brown*cow*antiques (1,466) 100%, Location: Brogue, Pennsylvania, Ships to: US & many other countries, Item: 184201980077 Offering this fabulous hand carved walking stick with a rattle snake coiled around it from bottom to top. This piece appears to have some age to it. It's actual age and origin are unknown, I found it at a York Co. PA estate sale. It is signed, however I cannot read the signature. There is a close up of that, you be the judge on the name. Being a rattle snake with a distinct carved rattle at the base of its tail, I would assume it was carved in the USA or a country within the Americas where rattle snakes are familiar to the people. It measures approx. 38" tall and is from a beefy branch of wood. The species of wood is unknown but there is still come bark at the top knob that may provide a clue. It is beautifully carved and well painted. Nice detail with scales all along the length of the snake body. There is one small surface split in the wood by the snake's head (see photos), and expected shallow surface cracks within the dried wood, as often see in hand carved pieces with age. It is in excellent condition, a sturdy and strong piece of wood. Really a unique, beautiful piece. A great addition to any walking stick collection. Offering USPS or FedEx shipping and always local pick up if you prefer.
