An exceedingly rare greenstone pectoral pendant in the form of a flying eagle with outspread wings and pierced eyes and/or suspension holes. Two perforations through head for suspension as well. The concave form could only have been created by an artisan who had immense command over his/her technique. The eagle as a bird of prey with soaring flight patterns was regarded as a metaphor for the sun throughout the Pre-Columbian world. Its speed, keen vision, and strong talons also made it an ideal emblem elite hunters and warriors. Beyond this piece's impressive artistry and iconography is the inherent beauty of the stone with gorgeous dark green, white, and russet inclusions. What's more, all of the proceeds from the sale of this piece will benefit six animal charities in Taos, NM.
