Ornate 19th century cast iron fireplace cover, 26" tall, 16" wide, back side embossed with a "No 19" style number and the name of the foundry James L Jackson. Jackson Architectural Iron Works was a prominent business established in 1840. Many of the beautiful cast iron 19th century building facades in and around New York will bear the name Jackson. I see a lot of Renaissance Revival in the design of this cover. The pierced shapes are very fluid and there are many piercings, yet there is a masculine look to it too. The molding is quite strong on the diamond shape in the center of a quatrefoil. The center section is painted metallic gold, the rest is painted black. The painted surface has an alligatored encrusted surface from age and probably from heat. Very nice condition for its age- fantastic indoors or out. Condition: PLEASE SEE THE WRITTEN DESCRIPTION AND ADDITIONAL PHOTOS UNDERNEATH., Color: Black, Material: CAST IRON, Maker: JAMES L JACKSON
