This instrument is the "three ring" frame design type, Hezzanith sextant. Instrument Condition: Exceptional. The Index arm clamp works freely, and the tangent screw moves smoothly as it should. The horizon and index mirrors are in good condition, as are the four index and three horizon shades. One can navigate with the stars or sun, today, just the same as the day this instrument was made. Beautiful polished brass! Operation: The arc measures from -5 to plus 150 degrees. Readings are taken with a swinging magnifier lens. A vernier style tangent screw at the end of an arm engages with worm teeth cut on the underside of the limb. Instrument weight is: 3 pounds 7 oz. Total weight with case is: 8 pounds 2 oz. The mahogany case is in generally good condition. There are naturally, signs of age. There is a slight split from age, in wood on the top cover. See pictures of case. These slight imperfections are not unusual in instrument cases of this age, and lend character.
