Seller: hmacie218 (133) 100%, Location: East Aurora, New York, Ships to: US & many other countries, Item: 174045460193 I found this jewelry at an estate sale. The owner was well traveled to Egypt and the Middle East in the 1930s and 1940's .I am guessing that is where and when it was acquired. At that time it was commonplace and legal for licensed antiquity dealers to sell pieces that had been unearthed . These dealers would sell right outside the grand hotels in Egypt. The scarabs were then set into jewelry . The lotus on the hallmark indicates it was set into the handmade sterling silver setting in Egypt after 1930's. The faience (?) is just a little darker than it appears. I believe this antique scarab was purchased and then set in the sterling as that was the custom at the time when this couple was traveling there . The sterling silver setting is handmade. An eBay expert on Egyptian jewelry directed me to their page with information as to the marks on this piece. http://www.ebay.com/gds/Egyptian-Hallmarks-/10000000178591804/g.html Hieroglyphics on brooch. Hallmark on Brooch I also had an EBay seller tell me that there were also copies made in the 1800’s. Please ask me any pertinent questions as I do not call myself an expert. Please see photos!
