Item:123933200116EXQUISITE CHINESE BENCH - QING DYNASTY This bench was purchased from one of the top antique dealers in Singapore (“CHERRY BLOSSOM”), where I resided and worked as an international business executive for a number of years. Due diligence will immediately reveal its favorable A-1 rating among local and international antique collectors and dealers. The bench (circa 200 years), was crafted during the late Qing Dynasty in the late 17th century. It is elegantly handcrafted in beautiful elm and fir wood grain, as is readily revealed in the attached photos. This unique and eye-catching bench was placed either in the living room of a home, or more likely, it was displayed as a decorative ornament in the hall of a Chinese clan or association; to add a flair of sophistication to the room decor. The bench was hand-crafted in the carved lacquer style applied to fill in an intricately engraved design. The bench is inlaid throughout with mother-of-pearl speckles. The 5-flower scenes across the top/back of the bench, as well as the Chinese centerpiece scene are all detailed in vivid gold, red and green colors overlaid the complimenting mother-of-pearl flecks. The back, side, and lower parts of the bench display stunning and intricately crafted, traditional motifs with auspicious meanings; each isolated in its own vibrant panel. The hand-carved motifs include: “Flowers of the Four Seasons”: Iris (Spring), Peony (Summer), chrysanthemum (Autumn) and, the Bamboo (Winter). “Basket of Flowers”: Symbolizes “Lan Cai-He”, one of the “eight immortals” – a popular figure respected by the Taoist. Center Square: The “main” panel is hand-carved with superb attention to detail, revealing a festive scene; symbolizing a celebratory time of happiness and wealth. The two arms on either side of the bench also possess decorative carvings along the top of the arms. Along the lacquered bench seat area itself, there is a minor hairline crack in the wood. The back of the bench as well as the 4 legs of the bench are completely lacquered. However, the underside of the bench is natural wood in excellent condition with no knots or blemishes. The dimensions of the bench are: Length: 68" Height: 37 1/2" Depth: 17 1/2" Given the age of this bench, it is in remarkable condition. Original cost was USD $7,800.00. This bench is currently stored in a secure, climate-controlled facility. Given the age and condition of this bench, it will only continue to increase in value.Region of Origin:China, Color:Brown, Age:1800-1849, Primary Material:Wood
